This webinar will explain the latest thinking in patent procedure and strategy in Latin America.  It will focus on the legal situation in the three largest economies in the region, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, with expert speakers from all three jurisdictions.

 In addition to essential knowledge for UK practitioners seeking to obtain protection in the region, the session will cover the latest thinking on important topics including the patenting of medical methods, software patents, and enforcement.


Dr Mariana Bullrich (Noetinger & Armando, Argentina)

Mariana leads the Patents Department, assisting local and foreign clients and inventors on drafting and filing patent applications, filing strategies and practices of the local Office. Mariana also advises on patentability and prior art searches, filing of third party objections to applications, and all aspects of the protection of inventions, improvements and designs through patents, utility models and industrial models or designs.

Dr Leonor Magalhães Galvão (Magellan IP, Brazil)

Leonor is a founding partner of magellan IP and the chair of the patent practice.  She holds a BSc degree in biochemistry from Imperial College London and a PhD from the University of Sao Paulo and is a registered patent attorney before the Brazilian Patent Office. She represents a wide range of clients helping them secure IP assets in Brazil and abroad. She chaired the Biotechnology Committee of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association for several years and is a delegate of the Brazilian Group and a member of the Pharma and Biotechnology Committee of AIPPI. 

AÍDA RENDÓN AMELIO (ARA LAW FIRM IP, Mexico) has been an in-house corporate lawyer for more than twelve years at a pharmaceutical Mexican company RIMSA, (acquired on March, 2016 by Teva Pharmaceuticals).

She has managed numerous patent litigations, including patent prosecutions against big pharma companies, such as: Eli Lilly, MSD, Roche and Pfizer. As partner in ARA LAW FIRM IP, she collaborates mainly with Mexican pharmaceutical companies, and provides patent clearance and patent filing applications regarding their pipelines via PCT or national entry phase in other countries.
