The Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury has been announced as the new Chair of the Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg), with effect from 7 September 2018.
Chris Smith, as he was known before being made a life peer in 2005, was Tony Blair’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport between 1997 and 2001.
He has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in public service holding posts on various public bodies.
Stephen Jones, President of CIPA, said: “With his long and varied career in Government and public service, including as Chair of the Advertising Standards Authority and the Environment Agency, Lord Smith brings a wealth of experience to the Board of IPReg.”
“His enthusiasm for the role and interest in intellectual property as a positive force in the economy is evident. CIPA looks forward to working with him in his new role.”
