Africa is the second most populous continent, and the economies of African nations are predicted to be key drivers of global growth in the 21st century.  Intellectual property protection in the region will play an increasingly important role in the strategic decisions of UK companies. This webinar will provide critical information on best practice in patent strategy in Africa.

Speaker Information:

Dina Amer (Egypt)

Dina is a Senior Associate in the corporate & commercial - intellectual property group within Eldib & Co, Cairo. Dina joined the firm in 2012. Dina specialises in corporate & commercial law as well as intellectual property law. Dina has handled many cases of IP disputes and succeeded in negotiating successful deals for clients in Egypt. Dina is a member of the Egyptian Bar Association, International Trademark Association (INTA), Association Internationale Pour la Protection de la Propriété Industrielle (AIPPI) and the Egyptian Association for Protection of Industrial Property (AEPPI).

Okey Onyekanma (Nigeria) 

Okey is a Nigerian attorney with an LLB from the University of Nigeria (1999). He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, Intellectual Property Lawyers Association of Nigeria (IPLA), International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition in Nigeria (ACC). Okey has practiced IP and corporate commercial law in Nigeria since 2002. In 2016 he started his own firm, Okey IP Law. He is experienced in trade mark, patent, related IP and commercial matters in Nigeria, and provides IP services to clients in all industry sectors.

John McKnight (South Africa – CIPA Fellow) 

John handles South African and international patent and design matters, including the preparation and prosecution of patent and design applications. John specialises in the filing of applications in the chemical, biochemical and pharmaceutical fields, and related litigation. He also has experience in commercial transactions involving IP, including confidentiality, joint development, supply, licencing and technology transfer agreements. John was former Deputy Head of Patents at Reckitt Benckiser in the UK, and is a Fellow of CIPA, a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law, a member of the Law Society of England and Wales and of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office.
