The webinar is delivered by a current FD4 (P6) examiner and is aimed at Fellows who support trainees in their preparation for this challenging examination.

How to approach the examination will form part of the introduction, including reviewing some of the published mark schemes and examiner’s reports. Common issues will be addressed and some myths and legends should be dispelled.

Insights gained from this will then be applied using some sample answers.

There will be ample time for questions and answers.

Phil Barnes

Phil is a Patent Attorney and Partner at IP Asset and a P6 Examiner and Tutor.

Dr Ben Appleton

Dr Ben Appleton is a partner at Wilson Gunn, based in Birmingham. Previously Ben was the in-house UK and European Patent Counsel for Cadbury Schweppes plc and Kraft Foods, Inc, based at the Cadbury factory in Bournville, where he was responsible for  managing the UK patent team and advising the business on a wide range of patent, design and technical know-how matters. During his time at Cadbury and Kraft, Ben was instrumental in streamlining freedom to operate processes and educating the business on the issues surrounding patent infringement and validity.

Ben has a BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Leeds and PhD from the same university in the construction of novel fluorescent biosensors for enzyme product detection. Ben has been a P6/FD4 Examiner for 10 years, and assists in the setting and adjusting of the FD4 paper
