Speaker Information - Jim Boff, Phillips & Leigh
Jim specialises primarily in patent prosecution, opposition, and portfolio management, but he is also experienced in trade mark and licensing matters.
His background is in Chemistry and Materials Science, but his workload is of wider scope. He handles a diverse range of technologies including, for example: ceramics, glasses, polymers, composite materials, alloys, amorphous metals, electroceramics, magnetic materials, photovoltaic devices, energy storage devices, carbon, diamond, graphite, nanomaterials, chemical engineering processes, and medical devices.
He is a member of Council of the European Patent Institute (being Chair of their EPO Finance Committee and “Chemistry” sub-committee); and a member of the Standing Advisory Committee before the EPO (SACEPO). Jim is a contributor to CIPA Journal and other professional publications, and has given talks to various bodies including, among others, AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association) and the ACPAA (All China Patent Attorneys Association).
Jim has a degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford.
